Delicious Buttermilk Pie
A classic Southern-style pie with a sweet, creamy, custard-like filling and a delicious buttery flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
- 1½ cups granulated sugar
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg, optional
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and crimp the edges as desired.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, flour, salt, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, whisk the eggs until smooth and slightly frothy.
- Add the buttermilk, melted butter, lemon juice, and vanilla extract to the eggs. Whisk until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, whisking until the filling is completely smooth.
- Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust.
- Carefully place the pie in the oven and bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and the center is almost set. The center should still have a slight jiggle.
- Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool completely on a wire rack.
- For the best texture, refrigerate the pie for at least 2 hours before slicing.
