Cocada con Leche Condensada
Cocada con leche condensada is a traditional Latin American coconut candy that’s sweet, chewy, and incredibly easy to make. It combines shredded coconut with sweetened condensed milk for a rich homemade dessert that’s perfect for parties, holidays, or afternoon coffee.
Ingredients
- 2 cups shredded coconut
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk or water
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Cinnamon for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Grease a baking dish or tray lightly with butter.
- In a large saucepan, combine the condensed milk, sugar, butter, and milk.
- Add the shredded coconut and cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly.
- Continue cooking for about 15–20 minutes until the mixture thickens and starts pulling away from the bottom of the pan.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla if using.
- Spoon small portions onto the greased tray or spread the mixture evenly and cut into squares later.
- Let cool completely before serving.
Tips
- Use fresh coconut for a softer texture and stronger coconut flavor.
- Toast a little extra coconut and sprinkle it on top for added crunch.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

- Add cinnamon or lime zest for extra flavor.
- Mix in chopped nuts or drizzle with chocolate.
- For colorful cocadas, divide the mixture and add food coloring before shaping.
