One-Pan Sweet & Tangy BBQ Sausage Rice
Ingredients
- 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
- 1 cup long-grain rice
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 bell pepper, diced (any color)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: chopped parsley or green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Cook the sausage
Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
Add sliced sausage and cook until browned (about 4–5 minutes). Remove and set aside. - Sauté veggies
In the same pan, add onion and bell pepper. Cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds. - Add rice
Stir in the rice and cook for 1–2 minutes to lightly toast it. - Mix the sauce
Pour in broth, BBQ sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well. - Combine & simmer
Return sausage to the pan. Mix everything together.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 18–20 minutes, until rice is tender. - Finish & serve
Season with salt and pepper.
Garnish with parsley or green onions if desired.
Tips
- Add corn or beans for extra texture
- Use spicy sausage if you like heat
- Sprinkle shredded cheese on top for a creamy twist
