 One-Pan Sweet & Tangy BBQ Sausage Rice

 Ingredients

  • 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 cup long-grain rice
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced (any color)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: chopped parsley or green onions for garnish

 Instructions

  1. Cook the sausage
    Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
    Add sliced sausage and cook until browned (about 4–5 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  2. Sauté veggies
    In the same pan, add onion and bell pepper. Cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
    Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  3. Add rice
    Stir in the rice and cook for 1–2 minutes to lightly toast it.
  4. Mix the sauce
    Pour in broth, BBQ sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well.
  5. Combine & simmer
    Return sausage to the pan. Mix everything together.
    Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 18–20 minutes, until rice is tender.
  6. Finish & serve
    Season with salt and pepper.
    Garnish with parsley or green onions if desired.

 Tips

  • Add corn or beans for extra texture
  • Use spicy sausage if you like heat
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese on top for a creamy twist
