Grandma’s Zucchini Gratin – Simple & Comforting

Ingredients:

  • 4 to 5 medium zucchinis, sliced into thin rounds
  • 200 ml heavy cream (light or full-fat)
  • 2 eggs
  • 100 g grated cheese (Gruyère or Emmental)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • A pinch of nutmeg (optional)
  • Butter or olive oil for greasing the dish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Wash the zucchinis and slice them thinly.
  3. Lightly grease a baking dish with butter or olive oil.
  4. Arrange the zucchini slices evenly in the dish.
  5. In a bowl, whisk the eggs with the cream until smooth.
  6. Add the minced garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg (if using).
  7. Pour the mixture over the zucchinis.
  8. Sprinkle the grated cheese evenly on top.
  9. Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the gratin is golden and set.
  10. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Serving tip:
Perfect as a light main dish with salad or as a side for meat or fish.
