Ultimate Patty Melt with Secret Sauce
A crispy, buttery sandwich packed with juicy beef patties, caramelized onions, melty cheese, and a creamy tangy secret sauce — diner-style comfort food at home!
Ingredients
For the Patty Melts
- 1 lb ground beef
- Salt & black pepper to taste
- 8 slices rye or sourdough bread
- 8 slices Swiss or cheddar cheese
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
For the Secret Sauce
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp pickle relish
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
Instructions
- Make the Secret Sauce
Mix all sauce ingredients in a bowl until smooth. Refrigerate while cooking. - Caramelize the Onions
Melt 2 tbsp butter in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add onions and cook slowly for 20–25 minutes until golden and soft. - Cook the Patties
Season beef with Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Shape into thin oval patties. Cook in a hot skillet for 3–4 minutes per side. - Assemble the Patty Melts
Spread secret sauce on bread slices. Add cheese, beef patty, caramelized onions, more cheese, then top with another bread slice. - Grill the Sandwiches
Butter the outside of each sandwich. Cook in skillet over medium heat until bread is crispy and golden and cheese is melted, about 3 minutes per side. - Serve Hot
Slice in half and serve with fries, pickles, or chips.
Tip: Add crispy bacon or jalapeños for extra flavor!
