 Black Pepper Chicken with Mushrooms

Ingredients:

  • 500 g chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 250 g mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, sliced (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
  • ½ cup chicken broth or water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1½–2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • Green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Season the chicken lightly with salt and a little black pepper.
  2. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the mushrooms and cook until tender and lightly golden.
  5. Add the garlic and onion and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, chicken broth, and black pepper.
  7. Pour the sauce into the skillet and bring it to a gentle simmer.
  8. Mix the cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water, then add it to the sauce. Stir until the sauce becomes glossy and slightly thickened.
  9. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss everything together until the chicken and mushrooms are well coated.
  10. Cook for another 2 minutes, then serve hot.

Serving suggestion: Serve with steamed rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes.
