Baked Ham & White Cheddar Casserole
This super-easy 3-ingredient ham and cheese bake is warm, creamy, melty, and incredibly savory. Thinly sliced deli ham is layered with a rich white cheddar and cream mixture, then baked until bubbly and golden brown. It’s perfect as a quick appetizer, party snack, or simple low-carb side dish.
Ingredients
- 1 pound thinly sliced deli ham, preferably large round slices
- 2 cups shredded white cheddar cheese, divided
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- Butter or nonstick cooking spray, for greasing
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease an 8×10-inch casserole dish or a similar medium baking dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray. - Make the Creamy Cheese Mixture
In a small bowl or measuring cup, combine the heavy whipping cream with 1 cup of the shredded white cheddar cheese. Stir until mostly combined. The mixture will be thick and slightly lumpy, which is perfectly fine. - Layer the Ham
Arrange a single layer of ham slices across the bottom of the casserole dish, slightly overlapping them. Tear the slices if needed to cover the corners and edges. - Add the Cheese Mixture
Spoon a few tablespoons of the cream-and-cheese mixture over the ham. Spread or dot it gently across the surface. - Continue Layering
Add another layer of ham, loosely folding or crumpling some slices to create ruffled edges. Spoon more of the cheese mixture over the ham. Continue layering until all the ham and cream mixture have been used, finishing with a layer of ham. - Top With Cheese
Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup shredded white cheddar cheese evenly over the top. - Bake
Bake uncovered for approximately 20–25 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted, bubbling, and golden brown around the edges. - Rest and Serve
Let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes before serving. Cut into portions and serve warm.
Tips
- For extra browning, place the casserole under the broiler for 1–2 minutes at the end, watching it closely.
- Large, thin ham slices work especially well because they create beautiful layers.
- Letting the casserole rest briefly after baking helps the creamy cheese mixture settle.
- Serve it as an appetizer, breakfast dish, or alongside eggs for a simple low-carb meal.
