CREAMY MUSHROOM SMOTHERED STEAK
I love recipes that are easy, comforting, and packed with homemade flavor! These tender, juicy steaks are browned until perfectly golden, then smothered in a rich, creamy mushroom and onion gravy.
It’s the kind of cozy dinner that tastes like you spent hours in the kitchen—but it’s actually so simple!
Ingredients
For the Steaks
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Creamy Mushroom Gravy
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
- Shape the mixture into 4–6 oval patties, depending on the size you prefer.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4–5 minutes per side, until nicely browned. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
- Reduce the heat to medium and add the butter. Add the sliced onions and mushrooms. Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and golden.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and onions. Stir well and cook for about 1 minute.
- Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
- Stir in the heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and black pepper. Let the gravy simmer for 3–5 minutes, until creamy and slightly thickened.
- Return the browned steaks to the skillet and spoon the gravy over them.
- Cover and simmer gently for 8–10 minutes, or until the steaks are cooked through and the gravy is rich and creamy.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
