Cabbage and Ground Beef Skillet

A simple, hearty, and budget-friendly meal packed with tender cabbage, seasoned ground beef, and rich tomato flavor. Perfect for busy weeknights and ready in under 40 minutes!

Ingredients

  • 1 small cabbage, chopped
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 can (15 oz / 425 g) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup beef broth or water (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
  5. Season with paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  6. Add the diced tomatoes (with their juices) and stir well.
  7. Mix in the chopped cabbage and add the beef broth or water if desired.
  8. Cover and cook over medium-low heat for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender.
  9. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.

  • Spoon over rice, mashed potatoes, or egg noodles.
