Sweet Baked Bean Burger Casserole
Juicy beef patties baked with sweet, savory baked beans for an easy comfort-food dinner!
Ingredients
For the Burger Patties
- 1½ lbs (680 g) ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 1 egg
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
For the Bean Sauce
- 2 cans (15 oz / 425 g each) baked beans
- ¼ cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Optional Topping
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Chopped parsley for garnish
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Make the patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently and form into 6–8 oval patties.
- Arrange patties in the prepared baking dish.
- Prepare the sauce: In another bowl, stir together baked beans, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined.
- Assemble: Spoon the bean mixture evenly over and around the patties.
- Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through and the sauce is bubbling.
- Add cheese (optional): Sprinkle cheddar cheese over the top during the last 5 minutes of baking and return to the oven until melted.
- Serve: Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.
Tips
- Serve with mashed potatoes, cornbread, or a simple green salad.
- For extra smoky flavor, add 4 slices of cooked, crumbled bacon to the bean mixture.
- Ground turkey can be substituted for a lighter version.
