 Sweet Baked Bean Burger Casserole

Juicy beef patties baked with sweet, savory baked beans for an easy comfort-food dinner!

Ingredients

For the Burger Patties

  • 1½ lbs (680 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

For the Bean Sauce

  • 2 cans (15 oz / 425 g each) baked beans
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Optional Topping

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Make the patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently and form into 6–8 oval patties.
  3. Arrange patties in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Prepare the sauce: In another bowl, stir together baked beans, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined.
  5. Assemble: Spoon the bean mixture evenly over and around the patties.
  6. Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through and the sauce is bubbling.
  7. Add cheese (optional): Sprinkle cheddar cheese over the top during the last 5 minutes of baking and return to the oven until melted.
  8. Serve: Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Tips

  • Serve with mashed potatoes, cornbread, or a simple green salad.
  • For extra smoky flavor, add 4 slices of cooked, crumbled bacon to the bean mixture.
  • Ground turkey can be substituted for a lighter version.
