 Air Fryer Blooming Onion

 Ingredients

  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Cooking spray or a little oil

 Dipping Sauce

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Pinch of garlic powder
  • Few drops hot sauce (optional)

 Instructions

1. Cut the Onion

  • Peel the onion and cut about 1 cm from the top.
  • Leave the root intact.
  • Place the onion root-side down and make cuts from top to bottom into 4 sections, then cut each section again until you have many “petals.”
  • Gently spread the onion open with your hands.

2. Prepare the Coating

  • In one bowl mix flour and spices.
  • In another bowl whisk eggs with milk.
  • Dip the onion first in flour mixture, then egg mixture, then breadcrumbs.
  • Make sure the coating gets between the petals.

3. Air Fry

  • Spray with cooking oil.
  • Place in the air fryer basket.
  • Cook at 180°C (350°F) for 18–20 minutes until golden and crispy.

 Make the Sauce

Mix all sauce ingredients together and serve with the blooming onion.

 Tips

  • Use a large sweet onion for best results.
  • Spray enough oil so it becomes crispy.
  • Serve immediately while hot and crunchy.
