Italian Sausage with Peppers and Onions

Juicy Italian sausages cooked with sweet bell peppers and caramelized onions — a simple, flavorful meal that’s perfect for dinner, sandwiches, or game day!

Ingredients

  • 4 Italian sausages (mild or spicy)
  • 2 bell peppers (red, green, or yellow), sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ½ cup marinara sauce or crushed tomatoes (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sausages and cook for about 10–12 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil, sliced peppers, and onions. Cook for 8–10 minutes until soft and slightly caramelized.
  4. Stir in the garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Add marinara sauce if using, then return the sausages to the skillet.
  6. Simmer together for 5 minutes so the flavors blend perfectly.
  7. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot!
