Cheddar Cheese Rolls: Soft, Fluffy, and Packed with Bold Flavor
Golden on the outside, pillowy on the inside, and loaded with sharp, melty cheddar in every bite — these rolls are the kind you pull apart while they’re still warm. Perfect beside soup, for sandwiches, or straight from the tray with a little butter.
Ingredients (12 rolls)
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 tbsp melted butter (plus extra for brushing)
- 1 large egg
- 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Mix the dough
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms. - Knead
Knead 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If sticky, dust lightly with flour. - First rise
Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 60–90 minutes until doubled. - Add the cheese
Punch down the dough and knead in the shredded cheddar until evenly distributed. - Shape
Divide into 12 pieces, roll into balls, and place in a greased baking dish. - Second rise
Cover and let rise 30–40 minutes until puffy. - Bake
Brush tops with melted butter. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 18–22 minutes until golden. - Finish
Brush again with butter while hot. Serve warm.
Tips
- Add a pinch of garlic powder or dried herbs to the dough for extra flavor.
- Swap cheddar with mozzarella or a cheese blend.
