AMISH SWEET PEPPER RELISH OLD-FASHIONED STYLE

Sweet, Tangy, Nostalgic Flavor — Just Like Grandma Used to Make

INGREDIENTS

  • 6 cups bell peppers (finely chopped, mixed colors)
  • 2 cups onions (finely chopped)
  • 1 1/2 cups apple cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp celery seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric

INSTRUCTION Chop the Veggies

Finely chop peppers and onions, then place them in a large bowl.

 Salt & Rest

Sprinkle with salt, mix well, and let sit for 1 hour.

 Drain Well

Drain all excess liquid thoroughly.

 Make the Brine

In a large pot, combine vinegar, sugar, mustard seeds, celery seeds, and turmeric.

 Bring to a Boil

Stir and bring to a boil until the sugar fully dissolves.

 Add the Veggies

Add the drained pepper and onion mixture into the pot.

 Simmer

Let simmer for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

 Jar It Up

Spoon the hot relish into clean jars, leaving a little space at the top.

 Cool & Store

Seal the jars and let them cool before storing in the fridge.

PRO TIP

Let the relish sit for 24 hours before eating — the flavor gets even better the next day!
