Salted Caramel Kentucky Butter Cake
Ingredients
For the Cake:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
For the Butter Sauce:
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- ¾ cup sugar
- ¼ cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Salted Caramel Glaze:
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
Instructions
1. Make the Cake
- Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C)
- Grease and flour a Bundt pan
- Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl
- In another bowl, beat butter + sugar until fluffy
- Add eggs one at a time
- Mix in vanilla
- Add dry ingredients + buttermilk alternately
- Pour batter into the pan
Bake for 55–65 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean
2. Make the Butter Sauice
- In a saucepan, combine butter, sugar, water
- Heat until butter melts and sugar dissolves
- Remove from heat and add vanilla
Once cake is out of oven, poke holes and pour sauce over it while warm
3. Make Salted Caramel Glaze
- Melt sugar in a pan until golden
- Add butter and stir
- Slowly add cream (careful, it bubbles)
- Add vanilla + salt
- Let it cool slightly
4. Finish the Cake
- Let cake cool, then remove from pan
- Drizzle salted caramel glaze on top
Tips
- Don’t skip poking holes → it makes the cake super moist
- Use buttermilk for soft texture
- Add extra salt if you like stronger salted caramel flavor
