Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese
Description:
A delicious comfort food mashup featuring saucy ground beef (Sloppy Joe style) combined with gooey melted cheese, all sandwiched between crispy, buttery Texas toast.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp mustard (yellow or Dijon)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 8 slices Texas toast (or thick white bread)
- 2 tbsp butter, softened
- 6–8 slices cheddar cheese (or American cheese)
Instructions:
- Cook the beef:
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Break it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease. - Add aromatics:
Add diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute. - Make the Sloppy Joe sauce:
Add ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and mustard. Mix well.
Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thick and saucy. - Prepare the bread:
Butter one side of each slice of Texas toast. - Assemble sandwiches:
Place one slice of bread (butter side down) on a skillet. Add a slice of cheese, a scoop of the Sloppy Joe mixture, then another slice of cheese.
Top with another slice of bread (butter side up). - Grill:
Cook over medium-low heat for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until golden brown and cheese is melted. - Serve:
Slice in half and serve hot. Enjoy!
Tips:
- Use low heat so the cheese melts without burning the bread.
- Add pickles inside for extra flavor.
- Try mozzarella or pepper jack for a twist.
