 Oven Baked 4-Ingredient Mushroom Swiss Steak

 Ingredients

  • 1½–2 lbs round steak (or cube steak)
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 can mushrooms (or fresh, sliced)
  • 1 can tomato sauce (or diced tomatoes)

(Optional: salt & pepper for seasoning)

 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
  2. Prepare the steak
    • Cut steak into serving pieces.
    • Season lightly with salt & pepper (optional).
  3. Assemble
    • Place steak in a baking dish.
    • Add sliced onions on top.
    • Add mushrooms.
    • Pour tomato sauce evenly over everything.
  4. Cover & bake
    • Cover with foil or a lid.
    • Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours until the meat is very tender.
  5. Serve
    • Best with rice, mashed potatoes, or noodles.

 Tips

  • Cook low and slow → this makes the steak super tender.
  • You can add a slice of Swiss cheese on top in the last 5 minutes for extra flavor.
  • Fresh mushrooms give better taste, but canned works
