Oven Baked 4-Ingredient Mushroom Swiss Steak
Ingredients
- 1½–2 lbs round steak (or cube steak)
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 can mushrooms (or fresh, sliced)
- 1 can tomato sauce (or diced tomatoes)
(Optional: salt & pepper for seasoning)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
- Prepare the steak
- Cut steak into serving pieces.
- Season lightly with salt & pepper (optional).
- Assemble
- Place steak in a baking dish.
- Add sliced onions on top.
- Add mushrooms.
- Pour tomato sauce evenly over everything.
- Cover & bake
- Cover with foil or a lid.
- Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours until the meat is very tender.
- Serve
- Best with rice, mashed potatoes, or noodles.
Tips
- Cook low and slow → this makes the steak super tender.
- You can add a slice of Swiss cheese on top in the last 5 minutes for extra flavor.
- Fresh mushrooms give better taste, but canned works
