Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak
Ingredients:
For the patties:
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
For the gravy:
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 packet onion soup mix
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp water
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
Instructions:
- Make the patties:
In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until combined.
Shape into oval patties (about 4–6 pieces). - Brown the patties (optional but recommended):
In a skillet over medium heat, brown the patties for 2–3 minutes per side. This adds flavor but can be skipped. - Transfer to slow cooker:
Place the patties in the slow cooker. Add mushrooms on top if using. - Prepare the gravy:
In a bowl, mix beef broth, onion soup mix, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. Pour over the patties. - Cook:
Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours or high for 3–4 hours. - Thicken the gravy:
Mix cornstarch with water to make a slurry. Stir it into the slow cooker during the last 20–30 minutes of cooking. - Serve:
Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
Tips:
- For extra flavor, add sliced onions or bell peppers.
- Use low-sodium broth if you prefer less salt.
- Leftovers taste even better the next day.
