Black Pepper Chicken with Mushrooms
Ingredients:
- 500 g chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 250 g mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, sliced (optional)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
- ½ cup chicken broth or water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1½–2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
- Salt, to taste
- Green onions for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Season the chicken lightly with salt and a little black pepper.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the mushrooms and cook until tender and lightly golden.
- Add the garlic and onion and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, chicken broth, and black pepper.
- Pour the sauce into the skillet and bring it to a gentle simmer.
- Mix the cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water, then add it to the sauce. Stir until the sauce becomes glossy and slightly thickened.
- Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss everything together until the chicken and mushrooms are well coated.
- Cook for another 2 minutes, then serve hot.
Serving suggestion: Serve with steamed rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes.
