Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt & black pepper (to taste)
- 8 slices Texas toast (or thick white bread)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or American cheese slices)
- 4 tbsp butter (softened)
Instructions:
1. Cook the Sloppy Joe filling:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned.
- Drain excess grease if needed.
- Add diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until soft.
- Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
2. Make the sauce:
- Add ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thick and saucy.
- Remove from heat.
3. Assemble the sandwiches:
- Butter one side of each slice of bread.
- Place one slice (butter side down) on a skillet.
- Add a layer of cheese, then a scoop of the Sloppy Joe mixture, then more cheese.
- Top with another slice of bread (butter side up).
4. Grill:
- Cook over medium-low heat for 3–4 minutes per side.
- Press gently and flip carefully until bread is golden and crispy, and cheese is melted.
Tips:
- Use low heat so the bread doesn’t burn before the cheese melts.
- Add pickles inside for extra flavor
- Try mozzarella + cheddar mix for extra stretchiness
