Caramel Apple Puff Pastry
Ingredients:
- 3 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and sliced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional but recommended)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. - Make the caramel apple filling
In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
Add the sliced apples and cook for 5–7 minutes until slightly softened.
Stir in brown sugar (and cinnamon + vanilla if using).
Cook for another 2–3 minutes until the apples are coated and slightly caramelized.
Remove from heat and let cool. - Prepare the puff pastry
Roll out the puff pastry slightly on a floured surface.
Cut into squares or rectangles (depending on your preferred size). - Assemble
Spoon a portion of the apple mixture into the center of each piece.
Fold or shape as desired (turnovers, pockets, or open tarts).
Seal edges with a fork if making turnovers. - Egg wash & sugar
Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle a little sugar for extra crispness. - Bake
Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed. - Cool & serve
Let cool slightly before serving. Best enjoyed warm!
Optional Add-Ons:
- Drizzle with caramel sauce after baking
- Add chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
- Serve with vanilla ice cream for a dessert-style treat
