Slow Cooker Chicken & Gravy
This comforting Slow Cooker Chicken & Gravy is creamy, savory, and incredibly easy to make. Tender chicken slowly cooks in a rich, flavorful gravy made with cream of chicken soup, ranch seasoning, and chicken gravy mix. It’s the perfect cozy dinner to serve over mashed potatoes, rice, biscuits, or egg noodles.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
- 2 cans (10.5 oz each) cream of chicken soup
- 2 cans water, using the empty soup cans to measure
- 1 packet chicken gravy mix
- 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup chicken broth, if needed
- Fresh parsley, for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare the Slow Cooker
Lightly grease a 6-quart slow cooker. Place the chicken breasts or thighs in the bottom of the slow cooker.
2. Make the Gravy Mixture
In a medium bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup, water, chicken gravy mix, ranch seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper until smooth and well combined.
3. Combine
Pour the gravy mixture evenly over the chicken. Place the butter on top.
4. Slow Cook
Cover and cook on LOW for 5–6 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the chicken is tender and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
5. Make It Creamy
Carefully remove the chicken from the slow cooker. Stir the sour cream into the hot gravy until completely smooth. If the gravy is thicker than you prefer, gradually stir in a little chicken broth until you reach your desired consistency.
6. Shred or Serve Whole
Shred the chicken with two forks, or keep the pieces whole. Return the chicken to the slow cooker and spoon plenty of the creamy gravy over the top.
7. Serve
Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, biscuits, or egg noodles.
Easy Add-Ins
For extra flavor and texture, try adding:
- Sliced mushrooms
- Frozen peas or carrots
- Sliced onions
- Shredded cheddar cheese
Helpful Tip
Chicken thighs work especially well in this recipe because they tend to stay tender and juicy during slow cooking. If using chicken breasts, avoid overcooking them so they remain moist and tender.
Serving Ideas
This creamy chicken and gravy pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes, steamed rice, buttered egg noodles, fluffy biscuits, or roasted vegetables. It’s an easy, comforting family dinner that comes together with minimal effort.
