Classic Beef Chili Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Cook for 3–4 minutes until they begin to soften.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess grease if needed.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
- Add the tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Stir well to coat the meat and vegetables with the spices.
- Pour in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth. Stir everything together.
- Add the kidney beans and bring the chili to a gentle boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally. For an even richer flavor, let it simmer for up to 45 minutes.
- Taste and adjust the seasonings as needed. Add more chili powder for extra flavor or cayenne pepper for more heat.
- Serve hot with your favorite toppings.
