Ham and Asparagus Rolls with Creamy Garlic Sauce

Ingredients

For the Ham Rolls

  • 16 asparagus spears, trimmed
  • 8 thin slices cooked ham
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Creamy Garlic Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Garnish

  • Fresh chopped parsley
  • Extra grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the asparagus and blanch for 2–3 minutes until just tender. Transfer immediately to ice water, then drain well.
  2. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  3. Lay each slice of ham flat. Place 2 asparagus spears on one end and roll the ham tightly around them.
  4. Arrange the rolls seam-side down in a lightly greased baking dish.
  5. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  6. Stir in the flour and cook for another minute.
  7. Slowly whisk in the chicken broth, then the heavy cream, stirring constantly until smooth.
  8. Add the Parmesan cheese, Dijon mustard, and Italian seasoning. Cook for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
  9. Pour the creamy garlic sauce evenly over the ham rolls.
  10. Bake for 15–20 minutes, until heated through and bubbling. For a golden top, broil for the last 2–3 minutes.
  11. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and extra Parmesan before serving.
