Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ⅓ cup pure maple syrup
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons milk (if needed)
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- ½ cup old-fashioned rolled oats (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until smooth and creamy.
- Add the maple syrup, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla extract, then mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until a soft dough forms. If the dough feels too thick, stir in the milk one tablespoon at a time.
- Fold in the oats and chopped nuts if using.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are set.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
