Ingredients
- 1 large piece fresh ginger root (about 2 to 3 inches / 5 to 7 cm)
- 4 cups water
- 1 to 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (optional)
- 1 to 2 teaspoons honey or preferred sweetener (optional)
- A few mint leaves (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the ginger
Wash the ginger root well. Peel it if desired, then slice it thinly or grate it. - Boil the water
Pour the 4 cups of water into a saucepan and bring it to a boil. - Add the ginger
Add the sliced or grated ginger to the boiling water. - Simmer
Lower the heat and let it simmer for 10 to 15 minutes so the ginger flavor infuses into the water. - Strain
Remove from the heat and strain the ginger pieces out of the water. - Add extras if desired
Stir in lemon juice and honey if using. - Serve
Drink warm, or let it cool and refrigerate for a chilled version.
