Cowboy Butter
I thought it was just melted butter… until I tried Cowboy Butter
This rich, flavorful sauce is loaded with garlic, Dijon mustard, lemon, herbs, and a little kick of heat. It’s perfect for dipping steak, shrimp, chicken, roasted potatoes, or even warm crusty bread. Once you taste it, you’ll want to put it on everything.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 teaspoon fresh chives, chopped
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon prepared horseradish (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, add the softened butter.
- Mix in the minced garlic, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and lemon zest until well combined.
- Add the parsley, chives, thyme, paprika, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, horseradish, salt, and black pepper.
- Stir everything together until smooth and fully blended.
- Serve immediately as a dip, or cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
- If chilled, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving so it softens.
How to Serve Cowboy Butter
- Dip steak bites or sliced steak into it
- Spoon it over grilled shrimp or salmon
- Brush it onto grilled chicken
- Toss it with roasted potatoes or corn
- Spread it on warm crusty bread
- Drizzle it over vegetables for extra flavor
Tips
- For a warm sauce, melt the butter mixture gently in a small saucepan over low heat before serving.
- If you like it spicier, add extra cayenne or red pepper flakes.
