Sweet and Tangy BBQ Sausage Pasta

Ingredients

  • 12 oz pasta (penne, rotini, or shells)
  • 1 lb sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 1 tbsp oil or butter
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Cook the Sausage
In a large skillet over medium heat, add oil or butter. Cook the sliced sausage until browned and slightly crispy. Remove and set aside.
  3. Sauté the Aromatics
In the same skillet, add diced onion and cook until soft (about 3–4 minutes). Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  4. Make the Sauce
Stir in BBQ sauce, tomato sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and smoked paprika. Mix well and let it simmer for 3–5 minutes.
  5. Combine Everything
Add the cooked sausage back into the skillet, then toss in the drained pasta. Stir until everything is well coated in the sauce.
  6. Add Cheese (Optional)
Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top and let it melt for a creamy finish.
  7. Serve
Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Tips

  • Use spicy sausage if you want a kick
  • Add bell peppers or corn for extra flavor and texture
  • For a creamier version, stir in a splash of heavy cream at the end

Enjoy your sweet, smoky, and tangy pasta!
