Sweet and Tangy BBQ Sausage Pasta
Ingredients
- 12 oz pasta (penne, rotini, or shells)
- 1 lb sausage, sliced into rounds
- 1 tbsp oil or butter
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup BBQ sauce
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook the Pasta
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside. - Cook the Sausage
In a large skillet over medium heat, add oil or butter. Cook the sliced sausage until browned and slightly crispy. Remove and set aside. - Sauté the Aromatics
In the same skillet, add diced onion and cook until soft (about 3–4 minutes). Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds. - Make the Sauce
Stir in BBQ sauce, tomato sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and smoked paprika. Mix well and let it simmer for 3–5 minutes. - Combine Everything
Add the cooked sausage back into the skillet, then toss in the drained pasta. Stir until everything is well coated in the sauce. - Add Cheese (Optional)
Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top and let it melt for a creamy finish. - Serve
Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.
Tips
- Use spicy sausage if you want a kick
- Add bell peppers or corn for extra flavor and texture
- For a creamier version, stir in a splash of heavy cream at the end
