Hobo Casserole with Ground Beef
The Ultimate All-in-One Comfort Meal!
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 4–5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- ½ cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
- 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
- 1 tsp paprika (optional)
- Butter or oil for greasing
Instructions
- Preheat oven
Set your oven to 180°C (350°F) and lightly grease a baking dish. - Cook the beef
In a pan over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Drain excess fat. - Make the sauce
In a bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup with milk until smooth. - Layer the casserole
- Start with a layer of sliced potatoes
- Add a layer of cooked beef
- Add onions
- Spoon some sauce over
Repeat layers until everything is used, finishing with sauce on top.
- Bake covered
Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes, until potatoes are tender. - Add cheese & finish
Remove foil, sprinkle cheese on top, and bake another 15 minutes until melted and bubbly.
Tips
- Slice potatoes very thin so they cook evenly
- Add veggies like carrots or peas for extra flavor
- Swap cheddar with mozzarella for a stretchier top
