Wonton Soup
Ingredients
For the wontons:
- 200 g ground chicken or pork
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 20–25 wonton wrappers
For the soup:
- 1 liter chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar (optional)
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 cup bok choy or spinach
- 2 green onions, sliced
Instructions
1. Make the filling
In a bowl, mix ground meat, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper until well combined.
2. Assemble the wontons
- Place 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of each wrapper.
- Wet the edges with water.
- Fold into a triangle and press tightly to seal.
- Bring the two corners together to form the classic wonton shape.
3. Prepare the soup base
In a pot, bring chicken broth to a gentle boil. Add soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and sugar.
4. Cook the wontons
- Drop wontons into the boiling soup.
- Cook for 4–5 minutes, until they float and are fully cooked.
5. Add vegetables
Add bok choy or spinach and cook for 1–2 minutes.
6. Serve
Ladle into bowls and top with fresh green onions.
Tips for Best Flavor
- Add a dash of chili oil if you like heat
- Shrimp can replace or mix with the meat
- Use homemade broth for a deeper taste
- Don’t overcrowd the pot—cook wontons in batches if needed
