 Fried Green Tomatoes Recipe

 Ingredients

  • 3–4 medium green tomatoes
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal (or breadcrumbs if you prefer)
  • 1–2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

 Instructions

  1. Slice the tomatoes
    Cut green tomatoes into slices about 1/4–1/2 inch thick. Pat dry with paper towels.
  2. Prepare coating stations
    • Bowl 1: flour mixed with salt, pepper, and paprika
    • Bowl 2: beaten eggs mixed with milk
    • Bowl 3: cornmeal
  3. Coat the tomatoes
    • Dip each slice in flour first
    • Then dip into egg mixture
    • Finally coat well with cornmeal
  4. Fry the tomatoes
    • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat
    • Fry slices for about 2–3 minutes per side
    • Cook until golden brown and crispy
  5. Drain and serve
    Place on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot.

Serving ideas

  • Ranch or garlic mayo dip
  • As a side with chicken or burgers
  • In sandwiches or BLT style
