Cabbage and Ground Beef

Cabbage and Ground Beef

Ingredients

  • 1 small cabbage, chopped
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup onions, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon bouillon powder
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (optional, for cooking)
  • ½ cup water or beef broth (if needed for simmering)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients:
Chop the cabbage and onions, and mince the garlic. Set aside.
  2. Cook the beef:
In a large skillet or pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Sauté vegetables:
Add the chopped onions and minced garlic to the beef. Cook for 3–4 minutes until the onions are soft and fragrant.
  4. Add spices and tomatoes:
Stir in the bouillon powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, and diced tomatoes (with juice). Mix well.
  5. Add cabbage:
Fold in the chopped cabbage. If the mixture looks dry, add ½ cup water or beef broth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Simmer:
Cover the skillet or pot and simmer on low heat for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and the flavors are well combined.
  7. Serve:
Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot, either as a main dish or alongside rice or bread.

This recipe is hearty, flavorful, and simple to make. The combination of cabbage, beef, and spices gives it a comforting, homey flavor.
