Pizza flavors meet classic comfort food in this hearty deep-dish pie! Flaky pie crusts are layered with seasoned ground beef, Italian sausage, pepperoni, gooey mozzarella, and savory pizza sauce. It’s cheesy, satisfying, and perfect for a family dinner or game-day gathering.
Ingredients
- 2 ready-made pie crusts
- 3 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
- 4 oz pepperoni, sliced
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups pizza sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, Italian sausage, diced onion, and bell pepper. Cook until the meat is browned and cooked through, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Drain any excess grease. Add the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Cook for another minute.
- Stir in the pizza sauce and simmer for 2–3 minutes. Remove from the heat.
- Place one pie crust into a deep-dish pie plate, pressing it gently against the bottom and sides. Brush the crust lightly with melted butter.
- Sprinkle about 1/2 cup of mozzarella over the bottom of the crust.
- Spoon half of the meat mixture over the cheese. Add a layer of pepperoni, followed by more mozzarella.
- Repeat with the remaining meat mixture, pepperoni, and mozzarella. Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese over the top.
- Place the second pie crust over the filling. Pinch or crimp the edges to seal. Cut several small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the top crust with the remaining melted butter.
- Bake for 35–45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is hot and bubbling.
- If the crust begins to brown too quickly, loosely cover the edges with aluminum foil.
- Let the pie rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
Tips
- Use a deep-dish pie plate to make room for all the delicious layers.
- You can add mushrooms, black olives, jalapeños, or extra bell peppers.
- Letting the pie rest before slicing helps the layers stay together.
- For an extra cheesy finish, sprinkle additional mozzarella over the top during the last 10 minutes of baking.
Serving
Serve warm with a crisp green salad, garlic bread, or your favorite pizza toppings on the side.
