Sticky Black Pepper Garlic Beef Stir-Fry
Tender beef, crispy golden garlic, and a rich black pepper sauce come together in this easy stir-fry that’s better than takeout. Serve it over steamed rice or noodles for a quick and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
For the Beef
- 1½ pounds flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
For the Sauce
- ⅓ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon freshly cracked black pepper
- ½ cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water
For the Stir-Fry
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 8 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1 bell pepper, sliced (optional)
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated (optional)
- Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with the cornstarch, soy sauce, and vegetable oil. Let it marinate for 15–20 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, black pepper, and beef broth.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the sliced garlic and cook until golden and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.
- Add the beef in a single layer and sear for 2–3 minutes per side until browned. Remove from the pan.
- Add the onion, bell pepper, and ginger to the skillet. Stir-fry for 3–4 minutes until slightly tender.
- Return the beef to the skillet and pour in the prepared sauce.
- Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens into a glossy glaze.
- Sprinkle the crispy garlic and green onions over the top. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired.
Serving Suggestions
Serve hot over steamed jasmine rice, fried rice, lo mein, or rice noodles. Add steamed broccoli, snap peas, or bok choy for a complete meal.
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet or microwave before serving.
