Creamy Homemade Mashed Potatoes

Creamy Homemade Mashed Potatoes

Introduction

Smooth, buttery, and incredibly fluffy, these classic mashed potatoes are the perfect comfort-food side dish for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs (900 g) Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) warm milk or heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Extra butter for serving

Instructions

  1. Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold salted water.
  2. Bring to a boil and cook for 15–20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
  3. Drain the potatoes well and return them to the hot pot for 1–2 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  4. Mash the potatoes until smooth.
  5. Add the butter and warm milk gradually while mixing until creamy.
  6. Season with salt and black pepper.
  7. Serve hot with an extra pat of butter on top.

Tips

  • Use warm milk for a smoother texture.
  • For extra-rich mashed potatoes, replace part of the milk with heavy cream.
  • Avoid overmixing, which can make the potatoes gluey.
