Meatloaf With Tomato Beef Sauce

 Ingredients

For the Meatloaf

  • 500 g (1 lb) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

For the Tomato Beef Sauce

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (400 g / 14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the meatloaf: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  2. Shape and bake: Form into a loaf and place in a lightly greased baking dish. Bake for 35–40 minutes.
  3. Make the sauce: While the meatloaf bakes, heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Sauté onion until softened, then add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  4. Simmer: Stir in crushed tomatoes, beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and sugar. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 15–20 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Finish: Remove meatloaf from the oven, pour the sauce over the top, and return to the oven for 10–15 minutes.
  6. Serve: Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Spoon extra sauce over each serving.
