Pineapple Fermented in Honey (Honey-Fermented Pineapple)
A sweet, tangy, and naturally fermented treat that’s delicious on yogurt, desserts, pancakes, or eaten straight from the jar!
Ingredients
- 1 fresh pineapple, peeled and cut into small chunks
- 1 cup raw honey (or enough to fully cover the pineapple)
- 1 clean glass jar with a lid
Instructions
- Place the pineapple chunks into a clean glass jar, filling it about ¾ full.
- Pour the honey over the pineapple until all pieces are completely covered.
- Stir gently to remove trapped air bubbles.
- Loosely close the lid (do not seal tightly) to allow fermentation gases to escape.
- Leave the jar at room temperature for 3–7 days.
- Open the lid once or twice daily to “burp” the jar and release pressure.
- Stir the mixture daily. You’ll notice bubbles forming as fermentation begins.
- Once the pineapple reaches your desired level of sweetness and tanginess, transfer the jar to the refrigerator.
Notes
- Fermentation time depends on room temperature; warmer temperatures ferment faster.
- The honey will become thinner as it draws moisture from the pineapple.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to several months.
Serving Ideas
- Spoon over Greek yogurt.
- Add to smoothies.
- Use as a topping for ice cream.
- Mix into sparkling water for a refreshing drink.
- Serve alongside cheese boards.
