Slow Cooker Amish Apple Butter Chicken

Slow Cooker Amish Apple Butter Chicken

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 4 medium)
  • 1 cup apple butter
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the slow cooker
Lightly grease the inside of your slow cooker or use a liner for easy cleanup.
  2. Add the chicken
Place the chicken breasts in a single layer at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  3. Make the sauce
In a medium bowl, whisk together the apple butter, chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
  4. Combine
Pour the sauce evenly over the chicken, making sure each piece is well coated.
  5. Cook
Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the chicken is tender and fully cooked (internal temperature 165°F / 74°C).
  6. Shred or serve whole
    • For a shredded version: remove chicken, shred with two forks, then return to the sauce and mix.
    • For whole pieces: serve directly with sauce spooned on top.
  7. Serve
Best served over mashed potatoes, rice, egg noodles, or with warm bread to soak up the sauce.
