Slow Cooker Cabbage and Smoked Sausage

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head green cabbage, cut into wedges
  • 14 oz (400 g) smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Place the cabbage wedges in the bottom of a slow cooker.
  2. Scatter the sliced onion and minced garlic over the cabbage.
  3. Add the sliced smoked sausage on top.
  4. Pour the chicken broth into the slow cooker.
  5. Sprinkle with paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  6. Add the butter on top.
  7. Cover and cook on Low for 6–7 hours or High for 3–4 hours, until the cabbage is tender and the sausage is heated through.
  8. Gently stir before serving and spoon some of the flavorful broth over each serving.

Tips

  • Add diced potatoes for a heartier meal.
  • A pinch of red pepper flakes adds a little heat.
  • Leftovers taste even better the next day after the flavors have melded together.
