Southern 3-Ingredient Sausage Pinwheels

Southern 3-Ingredient Sausage Pinwheels

These easy sausage pinwheels are a classic Southern appetizer made with just three ingredients: crescent roll dough, breakfast sausage, and cream cheese. They’re perfect for breakfast, brunch, parties, game day, or a quick snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 (8 oz) can refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 lb breakfast sausage (mild or hot)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease and let it cool slightly.
  3. Mix the cooked sausage with the softened cream cheese until well combined.
  4. Unroll the crescent dough and press the seams together to form one large rectangle.
  5. Spread the sausage and cream cheese mixture evenly over the dough.
  6. Starting from the long side, roll the dough tightly into a log.
  7. For cleaner slices, chill the log in the refrigerator for about 20–30 minutes.
  8. Slice into ½-inch rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 13–18 minutes, or until the pinwheels are golden brown and puffed.
  10. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Tips

  • Use spicy sausage for extra heat.
  • Add shredded cheddar cheese for a richer flavor.
  • These can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking.
  • Leftovers reheat well in the oven or air fryer.
