North Woods Inn Salad Recipe

A crisp steakhouse-style salad with creamy gorgonzola dressing that’s simple, fresh, and packed with flavor.

Ingredients

For the Salad

  • 1 large head iceberg lettuce, chopped

For the Dressing

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 oz gorgonzola cheese crumbles
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the buttermilk, mayonnaise, gorgonzola cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, white pepper, and salt.
  2. Mix until smooth and creamy. For the best flavor, refrigerate the dressing for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  3. Chop the iceberg lettuce into bite-sized pieces and place in a large salad bowl.
  4. Pour the dressing over the lettuce right before serving and toss until evenly coated.
  5. Serve immediately while cold and crisp.

Optional Add-Ins

  • Thinly sliced red cabbage
  • Bacon bits
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Green onions

Tips

  • Use very cold lettuce for that classic restaurant crunch.
  • If the dressing feels too thick, add a splash of milk.
  • Letting the dressing chill enhances the flavor even more.

This recipe is inspired by the famous steakhouse-style salad served at North Woods Inn restaurants.
