 Hobo Casserole with Ground Beef

The Ultimate All-in-One Comfort Meal! 

 Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 4–5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional)
  • Butter or oil for greasing

 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
    Set your oven to 180°C (350°F) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Cook the beef
    In a pan over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Drain excess fat.
  3. Make the sauce
    In a bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup with milk until smooth.
  4. Layer the casserole
    • Start with a layer of sliced potatoes
    • Add a layer of cooked beef
    • Add onions
    • Spoon some sauce over
      Repeat layers until everything is used, finishing with sauce on top.
  5. Bake covered
    Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes, until potatoes are tender.
  6. Add cheese & finish
    Remove foil, sprinkle cheese on top, and bake another 15 minutes until melted and bubbly.

Tips

  • Slice potatoes very thin so they cook evenly
  • Add veggies like carrots or peas for extra flavor
  • Swap cheddar with mozzarella for a stretchier top

 Serving Idea

Serve hot with a simple salad or crusty bread—this dish is already a full meal on its own!
