Potato and Onion Bake (Slow Cooker)
Introduction
A warm, comforting dish made with tender sliced potatoes and sweet caramelized onions, all slow-cooked in a rich, creamy, buttery sauce. It’s simple, cozy, and perfect for busy days when you want something delicious with minimal effort.
Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning (optional)
- A pinch of paprika (optional)
Instructions
- Lightly grease your slow cooker with butter.
- Add a layer of sliced potatoes, then a layer of onions.
- Sprinkle some garlic, salt, pepper, and herbs.
- Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.
- Pour the heavy cream and milk evenly over the top.
- Dot with butter.
- Cover and cook:
- On LOW for 6–7 hours
- Or on HIGH for 3–4 hours
- In the last 30 minutes, sprinkle the shredded cheese on top and let it melt.
Tips
- Slice the potatoes thin for even cooking
- For extra flavor, add a little grated Parmesan
- You can add cooked bacon or ham for a heartier version
