Potato and Onion Bake (Slow Cooker)

Introduction

A warm, comforting dish made with tender sliced potatoes and sweet caramelized onions, all slow-cooked in a rich, creamy, buttery sauce. It’s simple, cozy, and perfect for busy days when you want something delicious with minimal effort.

Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning (optional)
  • A pinch of paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. Lightly grease your slow cooker with butter.
  2. Add a layer of sliced potatoes, then a layer of onions.
  3. Sprinkle some garlic, salt, pepper, and herbs.
  4. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.
  5. Pour the heavy cream and milk evenly over the top.
  6. Dot with butter.
  7. Cover and cook:
    • On LOW for 6–7 hours
    • Or on HIGH for 3–4 hours
  8. In the last 30 minutes, sprinkle the shredded cheese on top and let it melt.

Tips

  • Slice the potatoes thin for even cooking
  • For extra flavor, add a little grated Parmesan
  • You can add cooked bacon or ham for a heartier version

Serve it as a cozy side dish with chicken or meat, or enjoy it on its own as a creamy, satisfying meal
