Stuffed Cabbage Choux Farcis
A classic dish made with cabbage leaves filled with a flavorful meat mixture and slowly cooked until tender.
Ingredients
- 1 large cabbage
- 500–800 g ground meat (beef, pork, or a mix)
- 1–2 onions, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 slice of stale bread, soaked in milk
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Fresh parsley, chopped
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1–2 cups broth (chicken or beef)
- Olive oil or butter
Optional: carrots, tomato sauce, or cheese for extra flavor
Instructions
- Prepare the cabbage
Separate the leaves and boil them in salted water for 5–10 minutes until softened. - Make the filling
In a bowl, mix the ground meat, onions, garlic, soaked bread (squeezed), egg, parsley, salt, and pepper. - Stuff the leaves
Place some filling in each cabbage leaf, then fold and roll tightly. - Cook
- Arrange the rolls in a pot or baking dish
- Add broth and optional vegetables
- Cover and cook on low heat for 45–60 minutes (or bake at 180°C / 350°F)
Tips
- Serve with rice, potatoes, or bread
- Adding tomato sauce gives a richer taste
- Slow cooking makes them more tender and flavorful
