 Slow Cooker 5-Ingredient Poor Man’s Stew

 Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1½ lbs potatoes (peeled & diced)
  • 3 carrots (sliced)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste

Optional (recommended for better flavor):

  • 2 cups water
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp garlic or onion powder

This recipe is known for being cheap and filling, using simple ingredients like ground beef and vegetables.

 Instructions

  1. Cook the beef
    • In a pan, cook the ground beef until browned.
    • Drain excess fat.
  2. Add to slow cooker
    • Put the cooked beef into your slow cooker.
    • Add potatoes, carrots, and onion.
  3. Make the sauce
    • In a bowl, mix tomato paste with water (if using).
    • Add salt, pepper, and optional seasonings.
  4. Combine everything
    • Pour the sauce over the ingredients in the slow cooker.
  5. Cook
    • Cover and cook:
      • LOW: 7–8 hours
      • HIGH: 4–5 hours
  6. Serve
    • Stir well and serve hot
    • Great with bread or rice!

 Tips

  • Don’t open the lid often—slow cookers lose heat easily.
  • You can add extra veggies (peas, celery, etc.) if you want.
  • Ground beef is used instead of stew meat to keep it cheap and fast.
