Slow Cooker 5-Ingredient Poor Man’s Stew
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1½ lbs potatoes (peeled & diced)
- 3 carrots (sliced)
- 1 onion (chopped)
- 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
Optional (recommended for better flavor):
- 2 cups water
- Salt & pepper to taste
- 1 tsp garlic or onion powder
This recipe is known for being cheap and filling, using simple ingredients like ground beef and vegetables.
Instructions
- Cook the beef
- In a pan, cook the ground beef until browned.
- Drain excess fat.
- Add to slow cooker
- Put the cooked beef into your slow cooker.
- Add potatoes, carrots, and onion.
- Make the sauce
- In a bowl, mix tomato paste with water (if using).
- Add salt, pepper, and optional seasonings.
- Combine everything
- Pour the sauce over the ingredients in the slow cooker.
- Cook
- Cover and cook:
- LOW: 7–8 hours
- HIGH: 4–5 hours
- Cover and cook:
- Serve
- Stir well and serve hot
- Great with bread or rice!
Tips
- Don’t open the lid often—slow cookers lose heat easily.
- You can add extra veggies (peas, celery, etc.) if you want.
- Ground beef is used instead of stew meat to keep it cheap and fast.
