Sweet and Tangy BBQ Sausage Pasta
A bold, smoky, slightly sweet pasta dish that comes together fast and tastes like comfort food with a BBQ twist.
Ingredients
- 12 oz pasta (penne, rotini, or shells)
- 1 lb sausage, sliced into rounds
- 1 tbsp oil or butter
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite brand)
- ½ cup tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup heavy cream (or milk)
- Optional: chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Cook the pasta
Boil pasta in salted water according to package directions. Drain and set aside. - Brown the sausage
In a large skillet over medium heat, add oil or butter. Add sliced sausage and cook until browned on both sides. Remove and set aside. - Sauté aromatics
In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until soft. Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds. - Make the BBQ sauce base
Add BBQ sauce, tomato sauce, brown sugar, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir and let simmer for 3–4 minutes. - Make it creamy
Pour in the heavy cream and stir until the sauce becomes smooth and slightly thick. - Combine everything
Return the sausage to the skillet. Add the cooked pasta and toss well to coat in the sauce. - Add cheese
Sprinkle in the cheddar cheese and stir until melted and creamy. - Serve
Garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve hot.
Tips
- Use smoked sausage for extra flavor.
- Add a pinch of chili flakes if you like heat.
- Leftovers reheat very well the next day.
