Apple Dumplings – Warm, Buttery & Irresistible
Soft apples wrapped in flaky pastry and baked in a sweet cinnamon syrup—this comforting dessert is perfect served warm with ice cream!
Ingredients
For the Dumplings:
- 2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and cored
- 1 sheet puff pastry (or homemade dough), thawed
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
For the Syrup:
- 1 cup water
- ¾ cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven
- Set oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Lightly grease a baking dish.
- Prepare the apples
- Peel and core the apples.
- Cut each apple in half (or keep whole if preferred).
- Wrap the apples
- Roll out the puff pastry and cut into squares.
- Place each apple piece in the center of a pastry square.
- Add a small piece of butter inside the apple cavity.
- Sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Wrap the dough around the apple and seal well.
- Make the syrup
- In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, butter, cinnamon, and vanilla.
- Bring to a gentle boil, then remove from heat.
- Assemble & bake
- Place wrapped apples in the baking dish.
- Pour the warm syrup over the dumplings.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
- Serve
- Spoon some syrup over the dumplings before serving.
- Best enjoyed warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Tips
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith for better flavor balance
- Add chopped nuts or raisins inside for extra texture
- For a shortcut, use canned crescent roll dough instead of puff pastry
