Southern 4-Ingredient Brown Sugar Bacon Crackers
Description
These sweet-and-savory bacon crackers are a classic Southern appetizer made with just a few simple ingredients. Crispy bacon, caramelized brown sugar, and buttery crackers combine to create an irresistible bite—perfect for parties, holidays, or quick snacks.
Ingredients
- 1 box buttery crackers (such as Club, Ritz, or Townhouse)
- 8–10 slices bacon (regular cut, not thick)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 pinch black pepper (optional, but recommended)
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top.
2. Prepare the crackers
Arrange the crackers in a single layer on the wire rack. Leave a little space between each one.
3. Cut and place the bacon
Cut each slice of bacon into thirds or fourths (depending on cracker size).
Place one piece of bacon on top of each cracker (or wrap it around if using round crackers).
4. Add the brown sugar
Sprinkle about 1 teaspoon of brown sugar on top of each bacon-topped cracker.
Add a light pinch of black pepper if you like a slightly spicy contrast.
5. Bake
Bake for 15–25 minutes, or until:
- The bacon is crispy
- The brown sugar is melted and caramelized
(If using thick bacon, bake a bit longer or increase temperature slightly.)
6. Cool and serve
Remove from the oven and let the crackers cool on the rack for about 5–10 minutes.
This helps the sugar set and become slightly crunchy.
Tips for Best Results
- Use a wire rack so the bacon cooks evenly and stays crispy
- Avoid thick-cut bacon—it won’t crisp properly
- Don’t skip cooling time (this is when they firm up!)
- You can add cayenne pepper or chili flakes for a spicy twist
