Savory Baked Cheese Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups bread cubes (day-old or toasted slightly)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese blend)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh herbs (like parsley or thyme) for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Prepare bread base: In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes, shredded cheddar, Parmesan, and chopped onions. Mix well.
  3. Make custard mixture: In another bowl, whisk together milk, heavy cream, eggs, melted butter, garlic, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  4. Combine: Pour the custard mixture over the bread and cheese mixture. Gently fold until all bread cubes are coated and the cheese is evenly distributed.
  5. Let it soak: Allow the mixture to sit for 10–15 minutes so the bread absorbs the custard.
  6. Bake: Transfer to the prepared baking dish. Bake uncovered for 35–45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set in the middle.
  7. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with fresh herbs before serving. Enjoy warm!

This casserole is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or even as a side dish for dinner. You can also add cooked bacon, ham, or vegetables for extra flavor.
