Cottage Cheese Sticks

Ingredients

Main Mixture

  • 1 cup cottage cheese (pressed or firm)
  • ½ cup grated mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Oil for frying (vegetable, sunflower, or canola)

Optional Coating for Extra Crunch

  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mixture
    In a bowl, mix cottage cheese, grated cheese, egg, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper until thick and moldable.
  2. Shape the sticks
    Form the mixture into sticks about 3–4 inches long and ½ inch thick.
  3. Optional coating
    For extra crispy sticks:

    • Roll each stick in flour
    • Dip in beaten egg
    • Roll in breadcrumbs
  4. Heat the oil
    Pour oil into a pan to about ½‑inch depth and heat to medium-high (~350°F / 175°C).
  5. Fry the sticks
    Fry sticks in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Drain and serve
    Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dip.

Tips & Variations

  • Chill the sticks for 10–15 minutes before frying to help them hold shape.
  • You can bake at 400°F (200°C) or air fry at 375°F (190°C) for a lighter version.
  • Add herbs like oregano, basil, or chili flakes for extra flavor.
